The Independent Woman on show at LMFF

Trois
Last Sunday night saw LMFF close a week long fashion extravaganza at Melbourne's Docklands with the Independent Runway, showcasing Australia's emerging and established designers. It's always a buzz to arrive to an empty runway awaiting what will be delivered down its long white path, camera finger eagerly poised and ready. I was not disappointed with the women's wear on offer and started creating mental outfits in my head with each snap on my camera.
I truly loved the offering from Trois as its bold prints and effortless pieces gave the woman choices from structured body hugging dresses and pants, to the comfort of slouchy and snug poncho like capes and long flowing cardigans in the most divine Aztec style print. Love it!!

Garth Cook
Garth Cook had sparkles to shimmer the night away in the most elegant and sophisticated way in beautiful muted tones of green and blue, offset with a colour palette of greys and blacks.

Ah, to have the legs and body to pull this little number off! Sensational!

Zhivago
Zhivago is dressing the futuristic woman who looks like she means business. It's all about the power shoulder, fitted silhouette and bold shimmering fabric with a printed suit that is certainly not for your shy and retiring types. I loved the impact in made on the runway.

Tettmann. Doust
Tettmann Doust had the most amazing printed leggings that at first I thought was the projections from the lights, along with dramatic flowing dresses with Autumnal toned prints and a seductive form across the body.

One Fell Swoop
One Fell Swoop played with a mixed media of fabric from the casual plaid to the shimmering metallic and soft chiffon, which all somehow strangely worked for me. I loved the two toned silver metallic sparkle pants teamed with a plaid checked woollen cross over top. The draping of the dresses were elegant and sophisticated with the white sequined number a definite attention stealer!

Strateas Carlucci
Strateas Carlucci offered both women's wear and menswear with their signature colour black mixed with sheer whites to soften the look, incorporating leather for a strong edgy urban feel.

Livia Arena
I loved Livia Arena's cut out black leather skirt and top with   the dramatic use of wide brimmed hats on the runway. Using simple monotone colours of black, white and greys, they spiced it up by throwing in the most intense shades of bright reds and burgundy to warm the palette and the senses up.

Congratulations to all the designers for a great collection of clothes that will no doubt be seen from the runways to the streets this Autumn/Winter. Now for the gentlemen, I'll be posting what was on offer for menswear on the Independent Runway next. Stay tuned!
