Linda Jackson Bush Couture

If you are lucky enough to be in Melbourne, then I would say you should definitely head on down to the National Gallery of Victoria (Ian Potter Centre) to see the free exhibition Linda Jackson Bush Couture which opened on Australia Day.

Featuring the most dynamic and striking use of colour and textiles, the works by the Australian Artist are sure to engage your sense of the diverse, playful and eclectic. They cover a period from the mid 1970's to the 1990's and is only a handful of the artist's collection spanning a career of over 40 years.

The exhibit is beautifully curated and unlike most previous displays at the gallery, the garments are out on open display, allowing the viewer to be up close with the textiles and observe intricate details. As a lover of colour, the bold, the visually unusual, I was in my element and will revisit this exhibit many times. I do hope if you are able to see it in person, you do so, and if not, then please enjoy these images.

Linda Jackson Bush Couture is now showing at the National Gallery of Victoria (Ian Potter Centre) till the 9th of September 2012 Entry is Free and there are also live talks as part of the program. Check for details.

Happy Australia Day!

A few months ago, I was presented with the creative challenge
from my friend James to come up with an outfit that he can wear to the APSAS awards ceremony in Queensland, Australia. The theme was Australiana and lucky for me, James is adventurous and allowed me total creative license. I'm not sure even he thought he would end up with a cockatoo coming out of his pocket! But you can't get any more Australian than a cockatoo and a bit of bush flowers and fauna!

Well, Bruce the cockatoo (Yes, he got named Bruce) came out for some fresh air again when the launch of a new exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria on Australian fashion designer Linda Jackson- Bush Couture was officially launched. Bruce enjoyed lots of attention and pats, and all the women swooned over him. I'm glad he got to come out and play for Australia Day and I hope you too spend the day in a creative way, in fine company, feathered or other kind and celebrate all that makes Australia what it is today.

Street Spotting

This stylish duo caught my eye on the street, firstly because I have a weakness for anyone wearing a great hat and for the fact that they complimented each others look so well. Grooming also plays a very important part in great style and how you carry yourself, and these two are certainly very polished and very sweet.

I love that her hat matches the colour of her bag so amongst the black dress, her accessories really stand out. His shirt adds some colour to a classic black pant with black framed glasses and another splash of colour in his bracelet.

Can't go wrong with a classic Channel bag.

What can I say- love love love the shoes!!

Street Spotting

I love this outfit because it is simple and classic but teamed with the right few accessories and a great pair of shoes, can really stand out, as it did for me. A simple black shirt rolled up and unbuttoned for a relaxed feel and a well fitted pair of jeans are basics everyone should have in their wardrobe. The shoes and bag were well co-ordinated as were his silver accessories and sunglasses.

Street Spotting

I spotted this pair walking down one of Melbourne's laneways when I was taken by the colour injection and how they both complimented each others outfit so well. His shoes matched her pants and his t-shirt reflected the checkered theme of her handbag. A casual look with some fun personality.

A Bright New Year!

Hello Readers! I am so excited to be able to bring you this post, on the first day of my newly (re-installed) internet in my home! You may recall that I have been most frustrated being without internet now for almost 3 months as my former (so nice to say that now) provider has caused me much grief and left me without any service. You don't realise how much you depend on it until it's gone, a saying true to most things, so today when two very lovely gentlemen rectified that for me and I saw the lights flash on my new modem I swear it felt like Christmas again!

It got me thinking that sometimes in life you can feel as though you have been dealt a bad hand.

And then other times, you look down and see that it is as bright as you wish to see it. Hence, I have painted my nails in as many of the brightest colours that I have to start the year off with a bright, hopeful and optimistic mindset.

And it is when you are in that frame of mind, you come across all sorts of amazing things, like these sparklers I found in the sand at the beach yesterday. One week on from New Years and the sentiment still remains the same- let's party, let's get creative, stylish and have fun with whatever hand we get dealt.

Happy New 2012!

A very Happy New Year to you all. I hope your New Years was festive, full of hope, optimism, goals and new resolutions for the coming year. I wish you all happiness, good health, abundance, love and harmony. I want to thank you all for visiting my blog and to those who allowed me to chase them down on the street to photograph them. It has been an absolute pleasure and something I look forward to doing more of. I am continually learning and evolving, so too will this space. I hope you keep me company in 2012 and by all means leave me a comment or send me an email if there is anything you'd like to see more of. I'll be back in the next few days with some more fashion, in the meantime, I hope your days are stylish, fun and carefree! XxGt
