Street Spotting-80's Rock and Colour Pop

I really do meet the nicest people Street Spotting. It is a strange thing stalking your subjects before having the courage to ask them to be photographed, and it's another to have them pose in a crowded shopping centre. But I had two very obliging and happy participants with these two who I could not take my eyes off until I finally interrupted their conversation for some snaps. Shopping centres at the best of times can be bland and the clothes themselves in the shops as well as the wearers frequenting them, can begin to all look the same. So, it was rather refreshing to my 80's aesthetic when sitting down for a coffee to see colour explode before my very eyes! I felt like I had entered the film 'Desperately Seeking Susan' (an absolute favorite fashion film for me) with the printed jacket and lace top with the cross necklace, bright hues and striking hairstyles, it was more like costume dressing, creating characters and evoking that mood, which I absolutely love to do myself, and I commend them on being so brave to wear their outfits out in the suburbs with such confidence. It made my day, and I'm glad I made theirs. 

Street Spotting: Layering Colours & Print

When you live in Melbourne you know that you can't necessarily get dressed in the morning by looking out the window and seeing what the weather is doing- as it will change at least 4 times throughout the day, you have to be prepared. Case in point over the weekend when I hastily put out a load of washing in the sunshine, blue sky, wind. Yes, what was I thinking when a mere 10 minutes later it was grey sky, wind and rain. But I digress. To survive Melbourne, it is all about the layers. And putting them on and off throughout the day. Making them a colourful assortment is half the fun. Strolling down the street, I immediately noticed the colour combination of this outfit and stopped to capture it. It certainly pops mixed together and I love the contrast with the black & white patent shoes. A print is always a good way to jazz up an outfit by giving a focal point, as does a great accessory like her belt which breaks up the outfit and gives her a good shape. How many layers and colours can you cram into one outfit? (Yes- that's a challenge- go for it!)

Street Spotting- These Boots are made for walking

You can't go wrong with great boots. And in this case- great cowboy boots! In a gorgeous red colour nonetheless. I absolutely loved them and it's nice to hear peoples stories about their favourite item of clothing or shoes and the story behind them. I loved the styling of her outfit with the three bold leather pieces of her boots, brown belt and brown leather bag, teamed with a casual skirt and striped t-shirt. And especially love the pig-tails and large sunglasses.

I love walking down the streets of Melbourne and coming across a gentleman who has not only put thought into his outfit, but incorporated lots of detail with impeccable grooming and styling. Keeping the colours neutral, but adding pops of brights with his shoes, socks and bag is a really easy way to veer off the 'all black' look that we seem to be well known for here in Melbourne. I think it works quite well, don't you?

I spotted this stylish duo because I loved how their outfits complimented each others colour palette and it was a palette that I love as well. I have really embraced navy blue over the last few years and was glad to hear I had found a mutual appreciator in the hue. Their outfits are timeless to me, as they are fitted and offer good tailoring and details, with statement accessories in a bold watch and leather satchel. I can't go past a good cardigan either as it offers such a relaxed yet smart addition to any outfit.

Melbourne is known for predominantly wearing black, but colour has been creeping into the landscape over the last few years and embraced by both men and women.  As a fond lover of colour myself, something can be said for basic blacks and muted greys in layering with textural elements. What struck me as I noticed this gorgeous lady was a serene feeling about her outfit, as well as a sense of style and playfulness with her side plait, bright pink lipstick and cowboy boots peeping out from a layered black skirt. A classic and timeless look.

When you see a pair of bunny ears peeking out amongst a crowd, and you know that Easter has long gone, you most definitely need to seek out the wearer. The head gear doesn't end there, when I noticed the positioning of three small pom poms stuck above her eyebrow with some gold glitter lining the brow. It's always refreshing for me to see someone comfortable in expressing themselves and that's what I love about fashion. The best looks are always those that you own and are worn with confidence.

I love that in Melbourne, you can wear short sleeves and a fur headband in the one outfit, as the weather does turn into many seasons. This outfit appeals to me because it has a mix of styles with feminine and grunge and a mix of the 80's and 90's. Using a soft delicate fabric with a heavy cord jacket and boots works rather well in my book and I think she looks stunning in it. What styles do you like mixing up and playing with?

A little side plait peeping out under a furry headband makes a nice addition.

These shoes caught my attention, and hard not to with the glistening gold. I love how she has teamed them with little striped anklet socks and  custom ripped sheer tights.

What I love about this great city Melbourne, is that on any given day, you can walk down the street and be visually excited by so many different looks and outfits. I was in such a rush when I turned around and noticed this girl who to me looked like she could have stepped off a film set. Must be my filmmaking background, but I love character dressing and my mind was already imagining a scene with her in it. I wasn't the only one as when I finished snapping her, I turned around to see a line of people with their camera phones out also photographing her.

Love that she co-ordinated her lipstick to her outfit.

The detail of the embroidery and woven ribbon with the netting skirt underneath is exquisite. Who says you can't mix blue with black?

Can't say no to a shoe with buckles- this has the works!

I absolutely love this outfit! Walking down the street, she stood out for me amongst a sea of black clothed office workers leaving work for the day, so it was very refreshing indeed to see colour in a retro get up. I think it suits her so well, and as blue is my favourite colour of late, I love how she has co-ordinated various shades of blue with prints as well as the pale sandy coloured hat and sunglasses. I was wearing a gingham print top I had made myself on the day, so it was like we were kindred gingham sisters.
