Fashion schools grace the runway at MSFW

Wrapping up MSFW, which already feels like a long time ago with a first for Melbourne Spring Fashion Week history. A show featuring students from varying fashion institutions in Melbourne, giving them a platform to share their designs with the retail hungry punters which filled the Melbourne Town Hall. The avant-garde met with street wear and ready to wear all the while wowing the crowd with their creativity and expression in design. A high standard to come out of these schools and I hope a continuing staple in the MSFW calendar.

Lighten up- it's just fashion!

One of the most highly anticipated runway shows of Melbourne Spring Fashion Week (MSFW) is the RMIT Student Runway show. Always a buzz of the festival, audiences know that they are going to be in for a visual feast where students have the freedom to be experimental with their design without having to think about the consumer and the bottom line. And that means great news for us as the show always has such energy and vibrancy and is most definitely a runway spectacle. I've been watching a lot of episodes of Project Runway lately and one of my favourite moments from Season 2 is when Michael Kors tells one of the contestants to 'Lighten up- it's just fashion'. This is turn leads to another contestant turning it into a catchy song which has been in my head all week during fashion week, a time when people can get rather intense and caught up in it all. This show is a great reminder to lighten up, enjoy the fun that fashion can offer and express yourself through it but don't be controlled by it. I hope you enjoy a selection of images from the runway show, I will be uploading more in my next post but a big congratulations to all the 4th year RMIT students for giving us such a great night that we will continue to talk about.
