Only want to see you bathing in the purple rain

Let me take you back to 1984, when a certain movie by the name of Purple Rain came out, starring my all time favourite musician Prince. Also released that year, was an album by the same name with Prince and the Revolution. It totally changed my world. It is in my Top 5 all time most listened to and loved albums and I still get chills whenever I listen to the title track and love doing a zany dance to Let's go crazy.
Prince not only rocks my musical world, but also my fashion/accessories world. He is a Gemini after all! The man sure knows how to dress for his body and wears accessories, even if albeit rather feminine in such a way that would make most men jealous. Purple rain is full of inspiration and has been copied time and time again from full on costumes, to homage dressing of the great one. I love that there are details from these outfits that can easily be incorporated into your wardrobe that don't necessarily need to make them costume. For instance, spruce up a jacket or coat by adding some studs on one of the shoulders for an instant point of difference.

Ruffles and frills seem to have been around for a long time, they made another come back in the 90's, but I say, if you can pull of the look-go for it!

An interesting version of neck wear is this piece of fabric fastened with a press stud. Super easy to do, you could fold up your favourite scarf, sew a hem to keep it in place, then add a press stud and viola- baby your a star! And lets not forget the lace gloves that were a feature of the 80's, very easy to do and a fingerless version allows you to still play the guitar while remaining fabulous and stylish.

So much inspiration here, not sure where to begin. How about with Prince's hat-the beautiful sash of fabric wrapped around is one thing, but adding a bit of lace to one side of your eye from the rim, makes you look all that bit alluring and mysterious while helping you out if you are having a shy moment to hide behind. Love the one sleeve coat too, as who says both arms need to be kept warm?

Layering with a great scarf never goes out of style, but layering and threading it through your epaulets is another. Effortless chic!

Who remembers peplums in the 80's? Well, a leather version is a more interesting one-it helps if you are Apollonia though!

Not enough colour? Just add a pink furry thing to your shoulder. That will fix it.

I can't go past a great cape, although can't say I've seen it worn with a bustier like this and check out those great earrings dangling from one ear. Very seductive.

When in doubt- add more buttons. Buttons are an easy way to add detail to any outfit and create a line or shape to draw the eye. Prince was well known for his button use- gotta love a man who's into buttons right?

And remember to match your outfit to your vehicle. Perhaps not as cool matching it to a train or bus, but a purple motorcycle-now that's hot.
If you are still wondering what on planet earth am I talking about-or perhaps were not even born in 1984-then I suggest hunting down Purple Rain and set yourself up for what may not be cinematic genius- but musically has all the hallmarks of it. If anything, the outfits will surely keep your attention, even if the plot may not.
